Larraine Elcock is the new FDQ Copy Editor, so please do all you can to make her job easier. After writing your paragraph set it aside, then come back to it to do revisions before emailing it to me. Read it out loud to hear how the language is flowing. You will be surprised how it may change your writing for the better.
Please check the following:
. Names of books, movies, dolls, outfits.
. Avoid starting sentences with "And," "Because" and
“But”.
. Keep run-on sentences to a minimum.
. Try to avoid using too many adjectives to describe one thing (this amazing, talented young designer…)
. Read out loud to avoid duplicating a word, a point, or a thought.
. If I'm doing an article or profile of you , please double check the spelling and grammar you submit.
Since the written information is generally relayed as email conversations, sometimes you might use slang, emoticons and shortcuts when answering, but it needs to be translated to properly written English for print. (i.e., no LOL, smiley face, triple exclamation points, inappropriate capitalization.)
You may simply include your paragraph (or profile information) in the body of an email to me, and I will see that it is sent to our Editor in the right format.
